How some lions are helping our mission to Mexico

It has been a while since a small group of BayState Eye Center employees have been on a mission to Mexico or Jamaica to help people see better. As you can imagine, that’s due to the pandemic.

But we’re happy to tell you that we are continuing our mission of helping people see better, not only here at home, but across the world.

In May, Dr. Lynch, his son, and Alyssa who works in our Plymouth office, will fly to Mexico and help improve the quality of life for so many.

Our team will help give eye exams to thousands of people. We’ll also hand out thousands of sunglasses, reading glasses, and custom eyeglasses.

But we can’t take all the credit, nor do we deserve it all.

It is a total team effort with so many great people (including you and our awesome patients) and organizations… and even some lions.

No, not these kinds of lions…

These kinds…

These are some of the Lions of the District 33S Eyeglass Recycling Committee.

The incredible group of volunteers is once again donating eyeglasses for our mission. We are so grateful and appreciative!

There are Lions club chapters across the globe - and each one helps its community in so many ways.

Lions collect food for local pantries, provide free eye screenings for preschool and school children, and sponsor camperships at area diabetes camps. They even do town clean-ups, host electronics recycling drives, and bottle and can drives. Some clubs also provide seeing-eye dogs for people who are blind, as well as provide hearing aids and eyeglasses for school kids whose families can’t afford them.

Martin Middleton, who has been a member for more than 20 years, is also the local District Governor of the Lions club.

He told us, “Lions Clubs International has been involved in humanitarian services and disaster relief for more than 100 years. Because Lions are in locales globally, we are usually the first people on the ground to provide aid and the last to leave.”

If you’d like to help your local Lions club, Martin tells us you can, “volunteer at local Lions clubs service projects, support Lions clubs fundraising events, and of course join a local Lions club.”

If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a member, here’s the link to the short application form.

You can also request more information about Lions in your area by going to https://semalions.org.

The greatest gift you can give to someone is the gift of sight.

If you’d like to help our mission to Mexico, here are a few ways:

1. Buy a new pair of glasses! A small amount of money from the sale of each pair of glasses goes toward funding our volunteer missions

2. You can donate glasses (or sunglasses) that we can bring with us

3. Monetary donations are also accepted at our Mansfield, Plymouth, and Bridgewater offices

It’s acts of kindness, like those, that will create life-changing moments for young children, or secure a smile on an older person’s face - when they can see clearly again.

So thank you so much for your generosity.

It means the world to us.

From all of us at BayState Eye Center,

Thank you
