Ortho K and myopia control

Orthokeratology, commonly referred to as Ortho-K, is the use of specially designed contact lenses worn during sleep, that gently reshape the cornea to help correct and improve vision. Unlike traditional contact lenses, ortho-k lenses are removed when you wake up in the morning. The reshaping that occurs overnight provides clear vision all day, eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Orthokeratology has proven to dramatically slow the progression of myopia by up to 50%. Even better, some patients do not progress once treatments have started. Ortho-K can also correct hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. It’s also a good option for people who already wear soft contact lenses, but who experience discomfort due to allergies, dry eyes, or a dusty work environment. People who are active also enjoy the freedom from glasses, contact lenses, and sports goggles.

YOU’LL SEE THE DIFFERENCE:

  • Patients who choose to use Ortho-K will notice a dramatic improvement after the first night of wearing the specially designed contact lenses
  • It's important to note, however, that it can take a couple weeks to experience the benefits of a full correction
  • Once corrected, most people will need to wear the contact lenses every night to keep clear vision

If you or a family member have myopia, please call your nearest Bay Eye Center location and schedule a myopia evaluation and discuss if orthokeratology is right for you.
